On the Colorful Side is officially 1 year old! Throughout this time I have learned SO MANY things. Today I am so happy to be able to share with my readers, as well as current & potential bloggers 5 of the most important things that I have learned as a fashion blogger.

1. Not everything has to be perfect

Oftentimes, life can appear perfect online. What people don’t see is all the funny, silly, and of course crappy pictures and moments that didn’t make it online. Most people, like to share the fun, cool, and happy moments of their life and this is why their social media persona can seem pretty close to perfect. Blogging for a year has really shown me how much I don’t want to come off as something I am definitely not. Some of my favorite bloggers are the ones that show the real side of the industry, because while being a part of the fashion industry has its perks, not everything is glitter and glam.

2. It’s not as easy as it looks

A lot of people think that fashion blogging is just about taking a pretty picture, but I can tell you that it is SO MUCH MORE! There are so many things that go on behind the scenes that people don’t even think about. Getting that one perfect picture, may have very well taken hours. From ordering outfits pieces, to creating the look, location scouting, photographing, editing, and actually writing the content, bloggers have a lot on their plate. Bloggers have to run their own website which oftentimes means learning html coding, fixing bugs, and securing their website. Building a social media influence is no easy task either! From keeping a newsletter running, to always having valuable content to post online, to standing out from all the other bloggers of the world, it takes so much for bloggers to get to where they are.

P.S. If you would like a whole blog post on this topic, let me know in the comment section below! I am thinking about starting a blogger series and would love to answer any questions you may have.

3. Blogging is SUPER time consuming

For many, blogging is like a second full time job! When bloggers aren’t focusing on everything I mentioned in my previous point, they are still crazy busy. Whether it’s connecting with brands, other influencers, or of course, their followers, there is always something to do and someone to connect with. Social media alone takes up a ton of time, and that is only one thing bloggers have to focus on.

4. Bloggers Are all In One

Aside from big time bloggers, most bloggers don’t have a team behind them to help out. Bloggers work hard in everything they do because at the end of the day, they are building their brand. They are essentially their brands, CEO, CFO, marketer, manager, creative director, social media specialist, etc. As someone who works in the corporate world, I have seen and done a ton of the things that I do for my blog, for big companies.

5. The Fashion Blogging Community is Unique

The fashion blogging community is very special to me. Through fashion blogging I have gotten to meet some of the most amazing, hardworking, and inspirational women. It really is something beautiful when people with similar passions come together and support each others dreams, and genuinely get excited for each others successes.

Thank you for being so amazing! I would love to support you as well, so make sure to leave your blog links, or social media in the comment section below!

The time consuming part really took me by surprise! Sure, just writing the posts doesn’t take long, but planning, taking photos and establishing friendships with other bloggers (which are all very important aspects) take quite a bit of time! Plus I’m following over 80 blogs because I find everyone just so inspiring! I’m not complaining though, I absolutely love blogging and am so glad I decided to start my own!

Honey you nailed it! I have only been blogging for some months now and I completely get it! Your points are accurate and you did not leave anything out. I consider myself a part-time blogger but technically I ain’t lol. Because when I am not writing content I am focusing on another aspect either photography or social media. I really enjoyed reading this!
